Alessandro Lazari, Ph.D.

Dr Alessandro Lazari works for the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, Directorate “Space, Security and Migration”. He is a member of the ERNCIP Project (European Reference Network for Critical Infrastructure Protection), which provides support to the European Programme for Critical Infrastructure Protection (EPCIP). During the last seven years, Alessandro has worked on policy support to the EPCIP for the Directorate General ‘Migration and Home Affairs’ (HOME), to “Strengthening Europe’s Cyber Resilience System and Fostering a Competitive and Innovative Cybersecurity Industry” for the Directorate General ‘Communication Networks, Content and Technology’ (CNECT), as well as on development of pre-normative support to standards, establishment of certification schemes for security products and development of qualified training for security managers. He assessed the impact of security-related European policies and regulations on European Union’s Member States and extracted best practices and key performance indicators, in view to develop optimum governance models for national approaches in CIPR. He is author of the book ‘European Critical Infrastructure Protection’ published by Springer Inc. in 2014. Since October 2017, Alessandro has been appointed Director of the south-Mediterranean Region by the International Association Critical Infrastructure Protection Professionals (IACIPP). He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Multimedia and Telecommunications (Faculty of Systems and Informatics, University of Florence, Italy) and a Master’s Degree in Law (Faculty of Law, University of Bologna, Italy).
